Planning Commission
The nine member Planning Commission is responsible for the Town’s Comprehensive Plan. They review subdivision plans and rezoning applications. The Kilmarnock Planning Commission also serves as the Subdivision Committee. Members are appointed by Town Council on a four-year, staggered term basis.
Planning Commission Minutes are available the following month once they have been approved.
Upcoming Public Hearings
A joint public hearing will be conducted by the Kilmarnock Planning Commission and Kilmarnock Town Council on March 9, 2010 at 7 PM in the Kilmarnock Town Hall, 514 North Main Street, Kilmarnock, VA. Click here for the agenda.
The following hearing is to solicit public comment on:
An ordinance to adopt and enact a new complete town code of ordinances, chapters 1 through 54, including new fee schedule. Recodification and publishing performed by Municipal Code Corporation to bring existing town code in compliance with State law, remove inconsistencies and obsolete provisions, and to include ordinances enacted since previous codification of 1997. Zoning permits and sign permits are issued by the town. Building permits and land disturbing permits are issued at the county level. A zoning permit must be issued prior to receiving a building permit. Click for flow chart of process for large scale projects.

Fees
- Zoning Permit – based on construction cost: $15.00 below $100.00, $25.00 from $100.00 – $999.00, and $50.00 for all costs over $1,000.00
- Sign Permit – based on sign costs: $15.00 below $100.00 cost, $25.00 from $100.00-$999.00, and $50.00 for all costs over $1,000.00
