Suspect Arrested-Dec. 22, ‘09 2:30 pm
Baltimore police arrested a suspect in a weekend attack who has been linked to the recent sexual assaults here in Kilmarnock. The Baltimore Sun announced that Donald Vaughan of Kilmarnock has been arrested in conjunction with a rape on Saturday, December 19th in Baltimore. The Rappahannock Record has provided further coverage as well.
Vaughan remains the prime suspect in the two local cases according to Chief Michael Bedell. “Significant police work has been underway to identify and link these crimes.” The Chief praised the work of law enforcement throughout the area stating “I want to thank the men and women of the Town of Kilmarnock Police Department as well as Lancaster County Sheriff Ronnie Crockett’s team for their effective police work as we bring this to a successful outcome. We have been assisted by every local jurisdiction and several State agencies and we appreciate their help.”
Citizens should however remain proactive with regards to personal safety. “Even though this case is moving forward, you should take a practical and prudent approach given today’s world” said Chief Bedell.
The Town of Kilmarnock will be hosting a community information session in early January to enable citizens to ask questions and comment on this case as well as personal security and crime prevention, in general. It will be an evening session with date, time and location to be released soon. Continue to check the website for updates.
